NEW YORK Womens Martin Frk Jersey , Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar retreated against other major currencies Monday as investors were waiting for the Federal Reserve's minutes of its latest policy meeting due out later this week.
The dollar index, which tracks the greenback against six major currencies, was down 1.01 percent at 85.816 in late trading.
With no major data coming out Monday, investors were awaiting the Fed's minutes of its September meeting scheduled to be released Wednesday to get more information about the central bank' s agenda for raising interest rates.
U.S. Labor Department reported Friday that total nonfarm payroll employment gained by 248,000 in September, beating market expectation of 210,000, and the unemployment rate declined by 0.2 percentage points to 5.9 percent.
The upbeat job data fueled market speculation that the Fed may increase interest rates before mid-2015. Meanwhile, the central bank is on track to end a bond-purchase program this month.
In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.2619 dollars from 1.2511 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.6049 dollars from 1.5967 dollars. The Australian dollar went up to 0.8747 dollar from 0.8672 dollar.
The dollar bought 109.01 Japanese yen, lower than 109.84 yen of the previous session. The dollar inched down to 0.9614 Swiss francs from 0.9674 Swiss francs, and it moved down to 1.1153 Canadian dollars from 1.1256 Canadian dollars.

MOGADISHU, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- A taxi driver was killed and a passenger injured when a bomb suspected to have been planted in the car exploded near the airport in Mogadishu on Monday.
Police said the bomb went off as the car drove by Jazeera hotel which has in the past been bombed by the militant group Al-Shabaab killing the driver.
